Transform Nigeria through Leadership
In order to Transform Nigeria, we need to take personal responsibility in developing leadership in the society. Most of us would assume that I am talking about Political leadership. What I am talking about is personal responsibility for one’s actions. How are we as citizens taking responsibilities for our actions as mothers, fathers, employees, employers, sisters, uncles, aunties, and grandparents? How are we showing our moral compass in the nation? As fathers and mothers, are we exemplifying a good moral compass for our children. Are we embezzling from our offices to provide for the children? Our children will eventually find out the error of our ways and think this is an ideal way of life. What are we doing? How are we exemplifying leadership in our communities, do we throw trash on the road? Do we skip the queue when waiting to receive service from government or private? As we end this year, this is a point of reflection for all of us. Leadership in government arises from the population and if we as citizens have reduced our moral compass then what do we expect from our leaders?
To transform Nigeria through Leadership starts from home. It starts from the way we are raising our children. It starts from listening to our conscience so that we don’t think what is wrong is right. Leadership sometimes means taking the difficult path to success. Let us tackle corruption at work for example working with vendors and collecting commissions. How do we remove the mote from the political elite when we have a beam in our own eye? Transform Nigeria, Igniting the power within meaning we need to look within ourselves to ensure we are doing the right thing before pointing fingers for reform in Nigeria.
It is important for us to embrace leadership from where we are at home, and at work. If we are able to do that, we then correct our wrong, utilize our civic duty and vote out the corrupt leaders that hold our nation to ransom. I realize our democracy is not perfect; but it is what we have to work with. Let us hold each other accountable as we work together to transform Nigeria. Leadership, my brother and sister, starts within then spreads to spark reform.
Tell me, what do you think about leadership to Transform Nigeria? How can we take personal responsibility for good leadership? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
