Happy Valentine’s Day Nigeria
Happy Valentine’s day Nigeria, the love of my life. The identity I carried upon birth, the land I had my first crawl and took my first step. The country where I met the best people in the world, my parents. The land I learned how to talked and say my ABCs and 123s. The country where I learned my mother tongue. The place I learned to eat my ethic food associated with rice, swallow, yam, cassava, cocoyam and best of all palm oil. I would like to profess my love for you. Happy Valentine’s Day Nigeria.
My beloved Nigeria, I went through primary and secondary school and made some cool friends, avoided some mean teachers. My darling, you have all sorts of Natural resources that can beautify you and make you the talk of the world. I went to another man’s land for my bachelors, work experience and Master’s degree but my soul always longed for you. In response to your loving care, what do I do in response?
I do not clean up when I litter the floor which made a part of you that was the commercial center a filthy place. Also, I refused to embrace my civic duty to vote and if I did, it was traded for a few naira to fill my belly. I worked for the government as a civil servant and people called me an evil servant. This is because I meet my own selfish needs instead of the needs of the people. When people were killed by the Fulani herdsmen, Boko Haram, and the Nigerian military, I keep silent. I bowed down to leaders who sucked you dry like vampires instead of holding them accountable.

You are moaning for new leadership and ideas to bring out the best in you to show off to the rest of the world. INEC has the Continuous Voter Registration encouraging us to conduct our civic duty. The Not Too Young to Run movement is encouraging youth to participate in the electoral process which brings you so much joy. The “Third Force” is a sleeping giant set to wake up very soon because a part of me loves you very much to stand up for you.
My re-dedication to Nigeria
This valentine’s day, I rededicate my love for you. I will pick up behind myself and not be a litter bug. Listening to you will be my utmost priority. Civil Society organizations working on justice in Democracy and Governance will be my nearest companion. Organizations like the Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth and Advancement, and Youngsters Foundation. Also organizations like Center For Democracy Development, National Democratic Institute, Inclusive Friends Association, BUDGIT, SERAP, Policy Legal Advocacy Center. There are also many other groups that are doing great things to bring out your beauty. I will hold my elected officials on the local, state and National Level Accountable for your welfare.
Most times, I am ashamed to call you my own because of the damage that has been done to you from the inside out. But you are mine and it is my responsibility to clean you up and call you my own again. This 2019 election, will be proof of my vow renewal. I will stand on top of the mountains and the depths of the ocean and be Nigerian and proud. My beloved, I’m sorry for all the atrocities I have done to you, please accept me and let me make it right. Happy Valentine’s day Nigeria, I will take responsibility to make you beautiful and the talk of the world.
