What are your 2018 Civic Goals as a Nigerian Citizen?

Your Vote is Power: Are you Going to Use it?

The year 2018 is an exciting time.  I believe more Nigerians are aware of their power to hold elected officials accountable.  Tell me change agents, What are your civic goals as a Nigerian Citizen?  Are you meeting your Civic goals Nigerian Citizens ready 2019 elections? During the Johnathan Administration, there were high levels of corruption.  During that era, we had 3 different types of citizens.  One group felt compelled that change made sense.  Their Civic Goals in 2014/2015 ensured that they campaigned and supported All Progressive Congress candidate Muhamudu Buhari for President.  During this democratic dispensation, he became president in 2015.  Olusegun Obasanjo had the opportunity in that position as president for almost for 3 terms.

The Second group enjoyed the status quo. They are the political elite and the current administration meets their self-interest. Status, prestige, and most of all financial gain. The third group which is the most popular of the bunch is the group that are indifferent.  This is the most dangerous group because it accounts for 2/3rd of Nigerian eligible voters which is about 91 million people.  Meaning 1/3 of this group voted the current administration into office.

Nigerian Leadership

I was not a big fan of the previous administration.  Goodluck Johnathan did not move fast enough with infrastructure and invest in jobs and power into the Nigerian economy.  He is from Bayelsa State, one of the oil rich regions in the Niger delta.  I visited the state last year.  It is a dump!  What did he do for his people in the South-South region with oil pollution? This is one of many issues I have against him.  What about the fight against Boko Haram?

The Buhari administration represented the Change Mantra.  What are your thoughts on that now?  He was sick for over 100 days in his Administration and forced back to the country by the “Ourmumudondu” movement.  What about the Maina issue where a civil servant accused of corruption was reinstated?  How much stolen money did the administration recover from oversees?  How is he addressing the violence perpetrated by the Fulani herdsmen?  We need to get our PVCs and vote.  Our vote is our power!!! If we don’t vote, we lose the right to complain about the inequities in our nation.

Civic Goals Nigerian Citizens ready 2019 elections

My fellow Change agents…it is time for us to take the bull by the horn!!! Let us visit the INEC website and locate our area of voter registration.  We need to ensure that we vote for the candidate of our choice.  In Nigeria, the youth account for over 60% of the population.  Let us meet our Civic Goals Nigerian citizen 2019 elections.  As a young person, are you interested in politics?  What do you need to do to run for office?  The Youth initiative for Advocacy Growth and Advancement, a nonpartisan civil society organization seeks to build the capacity of young people interested in running for office.

Is your Civic goal to become a local Government councilor, State House of Assembly member or National Assembly?  What about Governor or President.  Nothing is impossible to those who believe.  My dear change agents…work hard and reach your civil goal which is to exercise your duty and VOTE 2019.

Spread the love
